Buzz Love

Today, a post about maggot cheese inspired discussions about less disgusting culinary treats and comparisons of regional yummies and their bastardized cousins.

Meanwhile, a poll about Pakistanis disapproving of the killing of Osama Bin Laden brought enlightenment regarding racial slurs, where a simple shortening of a term is just a nickname in one culture, but an insult to another.

Many of us also learned what a merkin is.

This is why I love Google Buzz. Or rather, why I love the people who frequent it.

Despite the fact that the medium itself is so often full of glitches and leads to countless moments of frustration, I wouldn’t trade it for a thousand Facebooks or Twitters, or even my old love, Livejournal, because I know that here, I’m going to learn something beyond what someone had for breakfast or what cute things their kids have done, whne clearly, my kids are way cuter. (Plus, it’s just a matter of time before Google unleashes something bigger and better, according to intel – which I’ve learned from a fellow Buzzer.)

Rarely does a day go by where I don’t learn something new and interesting about any range of topics, from politics, to science to pop culture, to sociology… And rarely a day goes by that I don’t truly LOL at someone’s commentary.

Not to mention the advancements to my comic, show, gaming, music and book collections!

I’ve met people from all over the world – more so than I ever have before – and learned about their worlds or learned about my own world, as seen through their eyes. Not to mention all the people I’ve found with whom I have so much in common.

There have been debates. There have been arguments. There have been emotional rants. But for the most part, we’ve all been mature enough to move on afterwards without resorting to too much immaturity.

I like Buzz. I’m happy here. I like Buzz, because breasts.
